Migrated to Linux and miss Internet Explorer?

Of course, in my opinion, ie not enough to heels of Firefox, but it is only my opinion. Even so, ie can not exist, for small things, such as pages that only work in Internet Explorer, or even to, programmers who want to test their sites on multiple browsers.

The ie4linux is a script that facilitates the installation of Internet Explorer on Linux.

Wormux - A clone of the Worms

If at times the hours spent playing Worms, and when think about it, feel a little nostalgia, then it is because they are in need of Wormux!

The Wormux is a clone of Worms. I have tried and I assure you it is very cool.

Install it via Ultamatix, but I think that also you can install through Synaptic (if someone try, you know, tell us).

Also tested in the Magic Box and also worked well.

A disadvantage to find in the game, is not able to play against the computer. You can play up to 4 players simultaneously, and networking, but unfortunately (at least not find the option), against the Pc does not.
The game has several scenarios which to choose.

Go play some that life is not all work:).

Ultamatix: The successor to Automatix

How many of you have not shame that Automatix had suspended its activity? Many concert!

The Automatix is (was) a tool that automates the installation of additional applications such as codecs, libraries, fontets, controllers/rivers, among others. This tool of great usefulness to users of K/Ubuntu has been discontinued from version 8.04, due to lack of availability of Automatixa team to continue its development.

But ... in July this year (2008) came to the bottom in a light tunnel, the Ultamatix. This new tool can even be the successor to Automatix. and was released versions for K/Ubuntu, Ubuntu and Debian Unstable Ultimate.

Allows, to date, the installation of 101 applications, of which highlight a few:

* Media Players and Editors, Adobe Acrobat Reader; Additional fonts, MS fonts, and Red Hat Liberation fonts; Additional archiving tools (rar, unrar, ace, and 7zip, etc.). Skype, Google Earth, DVD Ripping software, and Codecs Plugins, Google Picasa, Wine & Wine doors; NON-FREE w32codecs and DVD codecs, OpenOffice Clipart, Game Alien Arena 2007; Amoebax Game, Game ATanks; NTFS Read / Write Support;

Can give the rest of the applications supported in http://ultamatix.com/.

In terms of installation is greatly simplified, and once installed, is available wide range of tools, applications and games! Yes, well read, Games!

So let us install it:
1 - Download the website: http://ultamatix.com/#download.
2 - Run the downloaded file (package. DEB).

The next step is to take advantage of all the applications provided by Ultamatix:).

Because not everything is roses, "the team Aventux, alert to the fact that some codecs may not be distributed freely in our country, it should inform themselves about the possible need to pay copyright.
But another is that the use of unofficial repositories can bring problems, because some may not be reliable.
Apart from these drawbacks, we continue to advise, so try and then come comment on your experience here.

The WINE is not an emulator!

Vai um copo?!

The Wine is an open source project that was born to give the possibility to run Windows applications on Linux operating systems. The Wine is more than an emulator, a time that you can understand that an emulator has to do with virtualization! From this, the Windows applications would be implemented in a virtualised, and therefore would be slower!
The Wine can carry to the field of Linux applications to Windows, which are executed as if the operating system for which they were manufactured. Surprised! Yeah, there is only a "very small" problem, in my angles course, is the stability of the programs running on Wine. At least I still can not run with 100% stability for example Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007. Word is that the stability is better, now when you go to Excel, the thing has changed a little picture! And then when we think in Outlook, you forget! Forget, is so to speak, remember, search and try and find out if the guys say here:). We are here waiting:). In any case there is a good alternative to Microsoft Office, which is Open Office, which I use and is very good. And an alternative to Outlook, there is the Evolution and Kmail, and others ...

As part of this instability, it is noted that there are many applications that run with great stability. Typically, the more simple the program is more likely he is to run smoothly on Wine.

Applications tested by team Aventux:
Can you run some stability with the following applications:

* Packet Tracer 4.1
* EyeDefender
* Putty
* Microsoft Office 2003: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, Picture Manager.
* ... (constantly updated)

We can not and never has been running successfully:

* Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007
* Google Chrome
* MSN Messenger (including the Live version)
* ... (constantly updated)

Installing the Wine?
Kubuntu 8.04 and Caixa Magica 12, and probably later versions, just go to Synaptic and find the Wine package, select and install.

Or, with the apt-get: sudo apt-get install wine

After the installation of Wine, should be available the following shortcuts in the group of programs Wine:

* Programs - Where are the shortcuts to Windows applications.
Browse * c: \ Drive - Explore the drive [c: \] - The Wine emulates the directory / home / USER / .wine / drive_c # as if they were disk [c: \].
* Wine Set - is an API which can, among other funcionalideades, add DLL's and configure the behavior of applications that work with Wine. As shown in the figure below, the application starts with Packet Tracer if in Windows XP.
Note: If an application does not run on Windows Xp so, should test the other modes, even if it seems a strange way for the application that is trying to use.
I happened, for example, have to put a recent application of the boot as if Windows 98, because in none of the other modes worked!

K/Ubuntu: How to add sources/types of letter

I found a good post this topic because, I went several times to "anhar" when I needed to add a font to my OS of choice:), I even got to lose a good 10m to search on google ...
But ready, look no further! It is very easy ... Just open the Konqueror or Dolphin in the address bar and put fonts: /, easy huh! Then just drag it to the source.

When you enter fonts: / should occur two areas, one personal and one of the system. First, it serves only to add fonts to the user that is in session, the other affects all users, therefore, the latter of administration privileges are required when adding new sources.

This procedure also works in the Magic Box, at least in KDE version and should work in many other, but at least those I tried.

Since the issue is fonts, take and leave a few addresses for download:

Gnome ISO Mounter (Gmount-iso)

Surely you already gave way mount an ISO image in a directory? If yes, this publication (post) topic is for you!
Can install the iso-utility Gmount, already available in the repositories K / Ubuntu. Just go to synaptic (who is, I install) or the Adept Installer and install ... If you do not remember how to install a package, read the publication: http://adventux.blogspot.com/2008/10/teste2.html

As you can see in the following figure, the iso-Gmount is very simple to work:
Chooses to file (. ISO) and then choose the directory (mount point).
Possibly, they must first create the directory you want to mount image. Usually it is mounted on / media / whatever or / mnt / whatever, where "whatever" is the name they give to the directory that will have the contents of the ISO image.
This utility also allows you to show the ISO images already and are mounted and logically disassemble one.

It should be noted that the iso-Gmount is part of Gnome, but as I mentioned in previous publications, typically, the programs worked well in the Gnome Kde and vice versa. This is very good because we get a wider range of possible applications for our system: D.

Google Chrome

What about Google Chrome? Sure already heard!
To begin with, in my opinion has great control, which is not getting out (02-September-2008) also a Linux version for community testing! I do not like using Windows, it is difficult to assess a browser so promising as this. Yes, assess, because so read the product is still far from the final version!
Certainly, there will be a Linux version and a MAC, but not for now! Decided they (Google) launched a version for Windows only (XP and Vista) ... 's wrong "because we have well water in your mouth! So it will to install a "XPzito", only to experience this scene (pardon the term: P).

An effort to install Google Chrome on Linux ...
Can you tell me that even in Arm artist and I was trying to install this new browser on Linux, using the Wine emulator! I tried, tried ... copied the directory of an already installed Windows (: P) and nothing. Changed settings in Wine and nothing! Simply not run, nor was any message: (.
I then got a call, who can say to the community! Are not only with the knowledge for you! eheh!

If you want to know more, consult this address: http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2225190/google-promises-chrome-mac

KolourPaint

For those who feel the lack of a tool for simple image editing, as it was (I say was, because not used: P) the Windows Paint, the KolourPaint was more similar to that found. And it seems to me that there must be something so similar as this, to see has all the features that the Paint and have some more. In terms of robustness, speed of work and interface is similar to its homonym.

This little tool is perfect for small changes in images, that these changes do not need a powerful image-editing program such as Gimp or Photoshop.

Although the KolourPaint now part of the Kubuntu repositories, here is the same official address: http://superdownloads.uol.com.br/download/154/kolourpaint/.

To install in Kubuntu is just go to the Adept Installer (Add and Remove Programs) and search for and install KolourPaint.

In Ubuntu, in principle should also be installed from synaptics.

In CM (Magic Box), just select the repositories "Release" and then install from Synaptic.

Install with apt-get: sudo apt-get install kolourpaint

Simply access a network share ...

Accessing Samba shares / Windows is so easy in Kubuntu and Windows! Disbelief?
Then try opening Konqueror (the default browser of Kubuntu) and at put \ ip_da_máquina or \\ nome_da_máquina. Thus, konqueror automatically converts the "\\" to "smb: //" making this task be more transparent to a user who is accustomed to Windows (Windows).
It is clear that over time, begins to use more often "smb: //" instead of "\ ", then, is the rating of the Linux root.
They can also create shortcuts on the desktop, pointing to network shares, and very similar to Windows XP:). Click the right mouse button on the desktop -> Create New -> Shortcut to Location (URL), and only!

smbmount

For more advanced users can also mount a network share a point of your disk (ie a directory).
And so, here is the recipe:
1 - Create a directory. In my case, usually with a name-server network "in / media, with the entire path on / media / SERVER-NETWORK /. In turn, within-NETWORK SERVERS, create a directory for each share they intend to mount. Example: SERVIDORES-REDE/Servidor1.
2 - Run the command:
sudo smbmount //ip_servidor/pasta_partilhada/media/SERVIDORES-REDE/Servidor1-o username = jose
3 - Create a shortcut on the desktop to /media/server-network for a fast and direct access to network shares. Can even change the icon of this shortcut to identify the best! Well, if your environment is like mine, is full of shortcuts: P.

If they have the command smbmount can install it running: sudo apt-get install smbfs or by the package manager (eg Synaptic).
